Iqtisodiyotdagi tegishli imkoniyatlar turli xil maqsadli funktsiyalarga ega bo'lgan tizimlarda dinamik optimallashtirish modellari shaklida amalga oshiriladi. Tegishli teoremalarning natijalari bevosita umumiy shaklda uzluksiz va diskret boshqaruv tizimlari uchun optimallik belgilari sifatida namoyon bo'ladi. Iqtisodiyotda matematik modellar ko’proq matematikaning funksiyonal analiz, matematik analiz, differensial tenglamalar, chiziqli tenglamalar, va statistika bo’limlariga bo’ysungan holda ishlab chiqiladi. Shunday qilib, iqtisodiy-matematik tadqiqotlar sohasi rang-barang va keng bo‘lib, matematikaning turli bo‘limlari, tizimli tahlil va natijalaridan faol foydalanishni talab qiladi.
